Inverness,United Kingdom

Summary

Twenty-three per-reviewed publications (26 publications), H-index of 13, Associate Fellow of the HEA (2016), PhD (2013) and MRes (2009). Over two decades research hands-on experience in Microbiology with eighteen years focus on pre-clinical development of therapeutic phage (virus of bacteria) formulations as alternative therapeutics, and as adjuncts to antibiotics. Expertise in many systems but a particular skill set in phage development for the treatment of human nosocomial pathogens and bacterial zoonoses. Pioneered several pre-clinical studies on therapeutic phage development for Clostridioides difficile, Salmonella enterica, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli. Developing biofilm, cell culture, artificial human gut and Galleria mellonella model systems to test safety, efficacy and specificity of phages in the targeted eradication of bacterial infections. Phenotypic and genetic characterisation of bacterial pathogens. Role of prophages in bacterial diversity and pathogenicity. NHS Ethics. Successful supervision/co-supervised over 20 BSc, MSc and PhD phage research projects. Multiple AMI international travel grants and Microbiology Society President awards. Named researcher in many successful MRC, New Investigator, BBSRC, Gates Foundation, UK Government, industry (AmpliPhi, Enbiotix) and African Union research grants. Co-PI AHDB pork (£30,000). Delivering three Scottish Government projects at SRUC (~£2m).
