As a compassionate and dedicated nursing professional, I've gained a wide range of nursing knowledge and experience, I have worked within several secondary healthcare departments such as; acute medicine, cardiology, respiratory, stroke and also emergency medicine. I have gained an great amount of skills whilst working in high-pressurised environments to formulate great high quality foundations in patient care.
Nursing high dependant patients; level 2 (1:2) and level 3 (1:1). Utilising invasive medical equipment such as arterial lines, icy-catheters, central venous catheters and interpreting results to escalate deterioration to the medical team. Up-taking the role as an advocate for my patients working closely with the multi-disciplinary team to establish optimal recovery.
During my time in the emergency department I delivered high quality patient care in times of adversity. My main role was to triage and assess patients arriving via the ambulance service or self-presentation to the department. Thus, helped me to carry out a thorough nursing assessment obtaining blood samples, vital signs, undertaking ECG's and deliver of medications to aid with an accurate diagnosis.
Working as an agency nurse I worked within the West Yorkshire region, working in secondary healthcare. I've worked in several areas such as: acute medicine, stroke, cardiology, respiratory and emergency care.
Initial emergency nurse posting within my career, working within a vascular and orthopaedic trauma unit. I worked regularly within the high dependency and resuscitation area and became a subject matter expert in delivering major haemorrhage training. I was also able to transfer critically unwell patients from presenting trauma unit to trauma centres within the West Yorkshire trauma network.
I was also able to triage both paediatric and adult patients, presenting via ambulance or self presentation. Furthermore, being highly skilled as I was able to cannulate babies and children, calculate medications dependent on the patient and utilising 'Wetflag' in an emergency situation. I also assisted the senior medical clinicians to take lead of cardiac arrests and Majax events.
Working on the Coronary Care unit at Bradford Royal Infirmary, going from working in a ward environment to a level 2 environment was challenging as I had to learn how to prioritise care more to patients due to the patient high level requirements of care and observations. I also took the role of a senior staff nurse within 6 months and attended cardiac arrests within outpatient departments but also supported the wards during nights due to being a cardiac nurse and to support the ward nurses.
I further developed my career at my eighteen month point of being qualified I took a seconded band six position. I oversaw the delivery of care to sixty patients within the covid assessment and high dependency unit. I would regularly deliver training sessions to junior nursing colleagues, provide support and advice around cpap and bipap settings and how to provide better ventilation and perfusion when proning patients.
