  • Responsible for all environmental aspects associated with a UK chemicals manufacturer operating its own transport fleet. This includes full regulatory compliance with environmental permits and discharge consents.
  • I manage regulatory inspections with the Environment Agency, demonstrating compliance and agreeing improvements, including Compliance Assessment Reports (CARs) and Operator Monitoring Assessment (OMA) audits for air emissions and water discharges.
  • Additional duty holder responsibilities include managing Major Accident Hazard scenarios and risks of Major Accidents to the Environment (MATTE), COMAH interventions for two upper-tier COMAH installations, and completing quarterly, six-monthly, and annual Environment Agency permit data returns, including pollution inventory reporting.
  • Following my promotion to Environment Manager, I have taken on increased strategic responsibility, including future-proofing the business through climate adaptation, NaTech management, Net Zero commitments, and integration into the Environmental Management System.
  • I am actively involved in reviewing and approving engineering Management of Change (MOC) documentation and participating in HAZOP studies from an environmental protection perspective. I also co-developed a tracker system to capture and manage all regulatory environmental actions.
  • I led the review and update of the ISO 14001 accredited EMS, delivering further improvements as part of an integrated management system alongside Quality and Safety. This included document and procedure reviews, staff training, and implementation of change-control logging.
  • As Lead Auditor for ICL, I refreshed the internal EMS audit approach, revised the audit plan, and improved confidence and compliance across all manufacturing sites.
  • Resource management and efficiency form a significant part of my role, ensuring legislative compliance while promoting circular economy principles. This included implementing improved waste tracking systems and strengthening competence in hazardous and non-hazardous waste classification.
  • I am a core contributor to ESG delivery, working with an external ESG platform partner to establish a carbon emissions baseline (from 2012) and develop reduction strategies, performance improvement plans, and communication routes.
