In High School I volunteered to lead Year 6, soon to be Year 7, pupils around the school. In this, I showed them around several departments like French, Science, Maths and more, giving them a brief overview of the curriculum. With the role I also had to engage in conversation and simply be confident to show Year 6 students that my High school was the place to go.
Also I have completed Duke Of Edinburgh Bronze level. I am also now working towards the gold qualification in college. In obtaining this achievement I did 6 months of volunteering at a youth hub. I did 6 months training in the gym and I did 3 months of baking for a charity, advancing by skills week by week. Within this, I gained discipline as I had to be consistent week by week while also in High School education. Although it was tough it did highlight my determination and work ethic as I was working weekends at the time too. In the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh I also had to participate in an expedition. I did preparation for the expedition by doing things like route planning and I also received brief first aid training, like how to put people in the recovery position. The expedition was two days and one night with the first day being around a 10 mile walk, with gear, from Leigh to Billinge. In this expedition I gathered skills that can't be taught like genuine teamwork and problem solving. For example, on my journey the map was slightly difficult at times through fields, but I and my group were able to use initiative and find our way back on track to the destination. We developed teamwork skills as we helped one another build a tent, cook food and other things. Overall the expedition granted me skills like resilience, teamwork, practical skills and more.
