  • Whilst volunteering here, I demonstrated leadership qualities as I frequently organised activities for upwards of 30 children aged between 3 and 6 in an attempt to help them develop both communication skills, as well as technical abilities. Another part of the role was to make short evaluative speeches in front of parents to award accolades to children at the end of each session. I showed dedication to the role as it required me to choose to spend my Saturday mornings volunteering as early as 8 am in order to ensure I could help develop the children's social skills and physical capabilities. At the end of each session, I willingly stayed behind to help clean up the pitches and pack away all the equipment to remove safety hazards for both young children and local residents of the area, as it was also a public area available for dog walkers. Due to the high volume of dog walkers, I performed mandatory safety checks of the pitches before resuming any activity, as if this task was missed, it could endanger the safety of the young children, leaving them susceptible to infection or more physical injuries due to the slippy nature of the terrain, mixing with inadequate footwear and bad balance. I frequently exploited my communication skills by suggesting to the leader of the session ways to improve the experience for the children, ranging from noticing issues with the pitch to suggesting that equipment had been set up too close together, and could in fact hinder the child's ability to enjoy the session to their full potential. During my tenure there, I was able to build relationships with not only those who I worked alongside, but also the children and parents who regularly attended the sessions.
