Hobbies

  • I give my spare time to my main hobby, the Royal Air Force Air Cadets. I currently hold the rank of Squadron Leader and have the role as Wing Staff Officer, managing and supporting 9 Squadron Commanders and their staff in different locations across Nottinghamshire and Stamford. Support for them includes but is not limited to safeguarding advice, management of people or administration queries, investigations of complaints and H&S compliancy.
  • Before this I was the Wing Sports Officer, managing sporting competitions for up to 31 squadrons, each having approximately 100 volunteers and 300-400 cadets.
  • I was previously posted to 209 (West Bridgford) Squadron as the Officer Commanding. I managed 13 volunteers, aged 20 – 70, who worked to develop approximately 70 young people aged 12-19 at any one time. As part of this role, I have an enhanced DBS check and Security Clearance. My most exciting success at 209 was being named as one of the top 6, most improved squadrons within the United Kingdom in 2018-2019 and once again nominated in 2019-2020, winning the title of the Most Improved Squadron.
  • A personal achievement is that I was nominated for a Women in Defence Award 2019 and nominated again for a second year in 2020, this time being shortlisted as one of the top 6 in the country, in the Outstanding Contribution Award category.
  • I have been a Cadet since 2005, completing many activities as a cadet, then deciding to continue to volunteer at the age of 20. I've had fantastic opportunities, earning a ticket to the Buckingham Palace Queens Garden Party, lunch at St James Palace along with participating in a parade at RAF College Cranwell for the retirement of the Chief of Air Staff.
  • I enjoy walking my dog and camping in the Peak District, although don't do this as frequently as I would like now with a daughter now 4.
  • I enjoy baking and cake decorating, which I have taken up over the few years for friends and family.

Accomplishments

Shortlisted in the Women in Defence UK Awards 2020 – Outstanding Contribution category, for exemplary service and dedication.
