I want to highlight my Health and Social Care qualifications which is where my health care journey started. As part of this qualification I completed work experience hours in my local hospital. As well as my job in the nursing home where I worked as a health care assistant and then completed the training to become a Care Practitioner and work alongside the nurses.
My qualification, work experience and job at the time confirmed to me, that I knew I wanted to work in Health care. And so I started my Adult Nursing Degree in 2022 and soon to qualify this year.
I work really well on my own and as part of a team as well, which I've applied on all my placements. I have enjoyed all my placements and gained something from all of them. I enjoyed my GP Practise placement the most and can see a future career working in this area,
Completed several placements across Devon and Cornwall.
Gained more knowledge and experience by utilising spoke days to be able to work with different teams.
Performed a range of care duties under supervision of my assessors.
Assessed, planned and reviewed care.
Managed my own caseload, learning how to prioritise tasks and develop time management skills.
I worked as a Health Care Assistant for two and a half years before progressing onto the Care Practitioner course.
This course trained me to work alongside the nurses and complete tasks such as medication rounds, basic wound care and care plans.
As part of my role in a previous nursing home position, I worked closely with patients living with Huntington’s disease. Motivated by this experience, my colleagues and I undertook a Snowdon hike to raise both money and awareness for the Huntington’s Disease Association. Through this challenge, we successfully raised £1,700 for the charity. In recognition of our efforts, we were invited to attend the Huntington’s Disease Association Awards, where we were honoured to receive the fundraising group of the year award.
