I worked at Woodleigh for 20 years and my role naturally evolved to doing activities as the Wellbeing of all the residents was very important to me. I loved organising entertainers to come in because it's very uplifting and joyful for the residents families and staff. I had key worker time with residents and this was very valuable time as I could give person centered care to that individual and was able to do various things that was important to that individual such as taking a resident to church, to see a brass band, another resident wanted to go to the Irish club and another wanted to attend a Pride event.
I have also arranged for the adapted bikes at Victoria Park to come to Woodleigh and we had a care home open day which was a huge success and most of the residents was able to have a ride on the bikes with families watching, eating hot dogs and ice creams a dj playing music outside and it was a very joyous occasion and it's just what I love to do. I did for years and years arrange for the eucharistic minister to come into the the home and he would do a little service every other Sunday and it was very popular singing hymns and bringing our little congregation together, plus handing our the parish newsletter. It was always very important to the residents and it's good to be able to reach the residents spiritual needs.
I enjoy the work I do and I always thrive to do better and better. Inclusion is important to me and I like to encourage residents to attend all activities but I also like them to speak up and tell me what they enjoy and I am more than happy to oblige, so if that person would like a ukulle band to come in I would make it happen, the same as if someone wanted a bagpipe player or Irish dancers or belly dancers, I am open to anything because I believe it's so important to respect an indivuals choice and preference. I recently organised the summer fate at meadowview which was a huge success and alot of planning preparing and clearing away. £416 was raised with a lot of help from my friends. I do like to give variety to keep residents interested and stimulated .
I enjoy salsa dancing and jive roc dancing in my local community. I also volunteer every Tuesday at a community centre packing foods which would otherwise go to waste and it's sold for £8,50 it's called the Bread and Butter Thing. It helps upto 80 families each week and it's great to be part of the team.
