I am a self-motivated individual committed to continuous personal and professional growth through training and new opportunities. I am passionate about the leisure industry, drawn to the diversity of people and roles that make it such a dynamic and rewarding field.
I was based as a Duty Manager at Exeter's St Sidwell's Point. I managed daily operations with a team of over 15 on shift and more than 2,000 member visits per day.
I was also the only member of the Duty Manager Team who was trained across all six sites, from an athletics stadium with 600+ competitors per event, to a bowls club, to a leading leisure centre; I have gained a variety of experience.
My main responsibilities are to lead and motivate the team, to ensure a high standard, and to ensure staff are working effectively and safely. I train our staff in all aspects of the centre to ensure they are equipped with the knowledge they need, through developing new onboarding and training policies and documents. Health and safety is a huge part of my role, from ensuring health and safety excellence to developing, creating procedures, and reviewing current policies. I need to remain calm and lead in the event of an emergency, by understanding and following emergency procedures. I am also responsible for customer feedback, dealing with customer complaints, and other related tasks. My daily responsibilities also include pool plant operations, from topping up chemicals, pool testing, weekly balance testing and correction to backwashing. I also conduct interviews and the on boarding of new employees. As a part of my role, I oversee a team of Team Leaders, one of which I have trained both through their qualifications and on site training.
During my time here I believe that I have learned a lot and I have progressed well in the short amount of time. I worked as a full time Recreation Assistant/Lifeguard where my responsibilities are to: supervise the swimming pools to ensure customer safety, Administer first aid, setting up of pool equipment, ensuring the centre is free from hazards and presentable to our members and assist in duties around the centre as required.
I was also a casual welcome host (front of house receptionist) I spend some of my days off working on the centre's reception. My duties were to: be a point of contact for customers, provide excellent customer care, provide accurate information for members/members of the public, make sales of new membership, take payments and set up memberships for members of the public.
As a part of my Recreation Assistant/Lifeguard Role, I have been promoted to a Relief Duty Manager across two sites (Wonford Sports Centre and Northbrook Swimming Pool). My Duties were to: open the centre, ensure the centre is free from Hazards, work the swimming pool plant room, manage the team, handle customer issues, cash up, complete health and safety checks and paperwork, modify rosters, and close down the centre. I managed Northbrook Swimming Pool and Wonford Sports Centre to HSG179 guidance along with other HSE guidance.
I worked at Crealy on my days off with my partner to save for a deposit on our house. During my time here, I had to: clean to COSHH guidelines, ensure that touch points were frequently sanitized, ensure toilet blocks are clean and close down clean large buildings. Closing down the buildings consisted of cleaning them to a high standard, turning off equipment, setting alarms and locking the building.
Haven was the start of my career in Leisure. During my time at Haven I won ‘Team Star of the Month Twice’ and excelled in my work. My responsibilities were to ensure guest safety. To keep them safe, I had to intervene to prevent accidents from happening, perform rescues to casualties in trouble, issue guests with First Aid and give them advice on how they can stay. As a part of our role we completed cleaning of the pool hall/changing rooms following COSHH guidelines. Halfway through the season I was asked if I could help on reception and for the rest of the season I would work as a lifeguard and a pool receptionist. On reception my job was to check guests' passes, make sales of pool equipment, make sales of outdoor activities, deal with any customers' questions, respond to poolside emergencies and ensure that the reception area is clean and presentable.
