My skill set within the team at The Boat and Horses is wide and covers many things However I am primarily the "Ideas" person
I work continually with the aim of raising the profile of the business
I initiate ideas to increase revenue and footfall, encouraging new patrons and customers I then promote the ideas and events via all social media platforms to ensure maximum footfall and return visits
We took over The Boat and Horses in 2023 . At that time it was a struggling business, unable to cover operating costs.
We have turned that business into a 500k turnover .
We have been awarded Best Smart Dispense Pint 2025 with a visit from Ross Kemp himself to deliver the award.
We have won the Midlands and North East Award for Best Community Pub.
We are one of six nominees for Star Pub best Pub of the Year 2025 (out of 2500 pubs )
During our short time we have raised £30,000 for local charities and causes including
installing a defibrillator, raising money for Forces in The Community, Parkinson Uk, Forever Stars, and many more.
I am passionate about Beeston Rylands . We moved to The Rylands in 2016, but it immediately became Home. The sense of community, the friendliness and the sheer beauty of the area is amazing.
I started to find out some of the history of the area, and particularly the people. Prior to taking over The Boat and Horses I started Beeston Rylands Heritage website , however the pub became all consuming and the heritage site is a project I have planned to come back to once I leave the pub.
I have collected photographs , documented stories and made many contacts and friends along the way.
There are so many stories to tell , so many lives to remember, the heart on The Rylands.
I was instrumental in bringing Beeston Light Night to Beeston Rylands when I found out The Rylands were not included I was dismayed and decided it simply would not do ! We deserved to be included and are now an integral part of the event.
We are holding a VJ day commemoration on August 16th 2025 at The Boat and Horses which initially was inspired by a story about a local chap who was incarcerated in World War 2 , and has unearthed several other stories of local heroes. I have plans to install a Forces Monument commemorating all of our Fallen Heroes , hopefully sited at The Heritage Centre , but this will involve a lot of planning and funding to be able to take place .
