• Well experienced in Challenge casework across all codes of grounds, including tone disputes, repair and redevelopment issues, reconstitutions and material change of circumstances. This work spanned offices, industrial and retail properties, with significant hands‑on experience in industrial units, car showrooms, builders’ merchants and wholesale warehouses across Yorkshire.
• Regularly undertake complex Appeal casework on behalf of the Valuation Office, preparing robust valuation arguments and representing the VOA at hearings. A notable achievement includes successfully defending the existing RV in a high‑profile station letting dispute involving Minimum Guaranteed Rent (MGR).
• Conducted inspections and undertaken precise measurements across a wide range of commercial properties, applying both the Code of Measuring Practice and RICS Surveying Safely 2nd Edition.
• Negotiated with variety of stakeholders including rating surveyors and ratepayers through written correspondence, telephone discussions, and face-to-face meetings to resolve complex rating matters and achieve evidence-based outcomes.
• Prepared clear, defensible valuation rationales supported by market evidence, comparable rental analysis and statutory case law.
• Applied appropriate RICS professional guidance notes and professional standards throughout work.

Training, Mentoring & Professional Development

• Provided structured support to apprentices and graduates on rating casework and the RICS APC pathway, including supervising a cohort and delivering workshops, exercises and presentations to develop technical understanding of the CCA process.
• Offer day-to-day guidance to less experienced colleagues, helping them build confidence in valuation principles, evidence gathering and case management.

Data Management & Technical Systems

• Handled senstive and personal data on a daily basis in accordance wih legislation and ensuring compliance with VOA data handling policies.
• Used a range of both internal and external databases to retrieve, analyse and store information including our Central Database, Valuation Mapping System and Electronics Documents and Records Management System alongside external sources such as CoStar and EIG autcions.
• Effectively utilised Microsoft 365 tools and AI‑driven applications to support the review and interpretation of survey details, property plans and lease documentation.

Class Coordination & Technical Leadership

• Part of the Class Coordination Team for car showrooms and retail properties, providing colleagues with up-to-date guidance on valuation practice notes, standards and emerging issues.
