Section name

Hugh James Summer Vacation Scheme 2022

  • Worked within the Commercial, Commercial Property, Dispute Resolution, Environmental Nuisance, and Nursing Care departments.
  • I prepared documents and performed file reviews, as well as researching relevant case law. I also worked with the Commercial partner on work around Procurement law.
  • I found I really benefited from working with, and supporting, experienced lawyers. It gave me a taste of the work I will carry out both during a paralegal role, but also a training contract and beyond. The insight I gained of life at a top Law firm is one I both desire, but also know will bring out all of my potential, both personally and professionally.

Male Sports Representative, Law Society, University of Reading

  • I was elected to the role by members of my University's Law Society.
  • I organised multiple sports teams, and organised events for the Society's members.
  • The skills I gained from the role would be leadership, working to deadlines and organisational abilities when organising and co-organising the Societies events. I also developed excellent communication skills, being able to both listen and take in, and put forward my opinions, in a number of different situations and scenarios.

Watsons Daily Commercial Awareness Coaching

  • Attended weekly coaching sessions around commercial awareness.
  • I further developed my analytical and communication skills in a commercial setting.

AMICUS Student Workshops

  • Attended a two-weekend workshop around AMICUS and the issues they face.
  • I found the workshops both informative and also inspiring, whilst developing my communication and analytical skills by being placed in to large discussion groups on areas of law I was unfamiliar with beforehand.

University of Reading Negotiation Training

  • During this extra-curricular course I developed key negotiation skills which I have been able to adapt and apply in all roles following the end of my time at university.
