My role as IT Ops Supervisor involves overseeing a small Ops team whilst reporting to the IT manager. Myself and my team handle all incoming IT support requests. These can vary to staff change requests from HR or hardware and software support from close to 500 employees. My role also involves having regular meetings with the IT manager where I present what we have been working on along with upcoming projects we will have to complete. I thoroughly use Microsoft 365 tools including the different admin centres where I help my manager look after our tenant and the purchasing of new licenses when needed. I use SharePoint everyday which is the main hub for everyone on the project. My job as supervisor involves maintaining and creating new sites and libraries, also making sure all permissions are correct. Also through SharePoint I created an asset management database where we use a check in/out process to maintain all devices on the project. I am also very familiar with implementing flows and automation through Power Automate to allow tasks to run without user input. I have participated in Intune device management training and we now use that to enrol all our windows/IOS and android devices onto. I am also responsible for creating compliance policies through Intune to install new company apps and make sure the devices don't fall out of date. I possess very good communication skills that I use on a daily basis to talk with senior leadership, departmental managers and all other employees in the business.
Before being promoted to the role of supervisor I had the role of IT assistant in the early stages of the HS2 project I work on now. At the start it was just me and my manager due to Covid 19. I was able to support the site setups in the Birmingham area whilst the workforce grew. I was the main point of contact for all employees at the time and helped with all general IT support tickets that came through. With the help of Microsoft and on the job training, I became very knowledgeable of office 365. Part of this role was creating and maintaining new SharePoint sites that would be used by the different departments/teams on the project. As the project expanded I helped with the recruitment process to find 2 more IT assistants to help me on a day to day basis. I also then was responsible for training to make sure they were capable of supporting at peak 700 employees. My manager then arranged me to go through 'right to manage' training' so that i was able to transition to the role of Supervisor.
Whilst at college I made the decision I wanted to do an apprenticeship as I had the desire to go straight into the working world whilst also still being able to receive the training and support I needed. Attraction world was an online ticketing company and I joined a small IT team consisting or myself and 1 other support person, 3 developers and the IT director. I attended College on Thursdays to attain a Level 4 HND qualification as part of the apprenticeship. The other days I was in office and became a recognised figure people could come to if and when they needed help with IT systems in the office. This could include laptop problems, printer setups or help with the call centre phone system. My managers Paul and Tom would assign me tasks that would teach me different aspects of IT whether this be shadowing the development or helping with network patching in the office. At this point i had a beginner knowledge of office 365 and at the time mainly only used the admin centre to complete new user setups and word and PowerPoint to complete my college work. The apprenticeship was cut short because In March 2020 i was placed on furlough due to COVID 19 and in September made redundant because the business was struggling at the time.
