I am a strong communicator with my greatest strength being the ability to put people at their ease in difficult situations. Open-minded and un-biased I am often described by others as being a calming influence.
Both my parents work in mental health and I have always been fascinated by the varied nature of their work.
After realising that a degree course in Fashion Communications did not inspire me I have decided to embark on a career in Health and Social Care where I am excited to work as part of a team and support equally colleagues and individuals requiring care.
My ultimate aim is to train in an area where I can care for others whilst learning skills to manage complex situations safely and professionally.
I have spent the last 15 months working in Priory owned community services both in Southampton and more recently London. In my current role we provide care and treatment for five service users both male and female. The service is geared towards LD care eg autism however I have also been working with some service users with a primary diagnosis of schizophrenia. This has allowed me an opportunity to develop skills across a wider range of care needs. I am now keen to expand my knowledge and experience further and am particularly interested to pursue a support worker role involving young people. Having worked briefly with young people at the leisure facility Holly wood Bowl I found interacting with youngsters challenging but fun and feel I relate well to their needs.I am also keen to gain experience in a more acute setting such as inpatient care with a view in the future to consider formal training in nursing .
I have met the competencies to dispense medication and am keen to learn more about medications used in different conditions.I have found this responsibility very rewarding.
I have a good grasp of IT skills and a good telephone manner; I am hardworking and like to see positive outcomes from my work.
I am keen on environmental issues and have a strong moral compass.
In September 2021 I decided to move to London and transferred my job from working with the Priory at Brooke House to working in a similar role within the Priory initially at Linden Lodge in Southgate and subsequently transferring to Devonshire Road, Palmers Green where I currently work. These units are 7 bedded and 5 bedded units respectively and provide residential care to adults with severe and enduring mental health conditions and learning disability.
