Between March 2009 and March 2010 I ran my own consultancy business with two key customers – John Swan & Sons PLC and C-MIST. The John Swan role was much as above. The role for C-MIST was as below:
Investing the businesses equity to produce a commercial property investment portfolio.
Responsibility of fund set up and management.
Responsibility for property identification, selection and all elements of property purchase.
To manage and head up the existing CDM / Site Inspector and Training teams within the business.
To secure new business for the CDM team
To create links with existing clients within the Middle East and North Africa to extend the C-MIST fund and to help these clients invest into the UK market.
Responsibility for working with Scottish Enterprise and RSA to obtain grant money for the development of offices for C-MIST.
Successfully managed internal team by bringing through new business to the firm (KPMG, Zolfo Cooper, FM Developments, ING Real Estate).
Obtained initial funding from both Scottish Enterprise and RSA to aid the development of a new office facility for C-MIST.
Manage internal and external teams of lawyers, accountants and surveyors within the fund / property company set-up and through initial stages of investment purchases.

Identified and purchased West Side Plaza, Shopping Centre, Edinburgh for £18.20m. Secured Senior Debt (with RBS) and a 50:50 Joint Venture with FM Developments. Sold 11 months later to AWG for £25.20m.
Identified and purchased the Brandon Centre, Motherwell, for £65.0m from CIS. Secured Senior Debt, Equity and Mezzanine finance from HBOS. Formulated and implemented the asset management strategy.
