Work History

Assistant Ecologist

04.2024 - Current

Tasks: Wildlife Surveys, Report Writing, Data Analysis, GIS Mapping, Risk Assessment, Client Liaison.

Skills Used: Teamwork & Communication, Time-management, Technical Writing, Species Identification, Statistical Analysis and Interpretation, Software Skills, Fieldwork Skills, Legislative Knowledge.

Collaborating with a team of 27 Ecologists, I provided consultancy services to construction industry developers. I led bat emergence surveys and wrote and contributed to reports such as preliminary ecological appraisals and ecological impact assessments. Once, while conducting data analysis, I noticed the PCs were overloaded, causing a data backlog. I coordinated with the team to identify and remove obsolete projects, enabling analysis to continue and ensuring timely report delivery to clients.

Volunteer

09.2023 - Current
  • Tasks: Land management.
  • Skills Used: Teamworking, scything, use of heavy tools.
  • On one occasion while scything meadow grass I discovered a nest of field voles, and immediately notified the team leader to ensure the safety of the nest. I helped to repair fences between stakeholder and Trust land to maintain good relations.

Kennel Hand

  • Tasks: Customer payments & care, dog grooming, kennel/cattery cleaning, animal exercise/feeding, administering medication, kennel maintenance.
  • Skills Used: Teamworking, money responsibility, timely intervention, creating work plans.
  • With 60 dogs and 20 cats I learned good workload planning and coordinated my efforts with the team. On occasions when payment machines broke I persevered to fix the problem, but if it persisted I referred it to my managers. I reported maintenance issues such as frayed hatch wiring or broken cattery stairs and immediately informed my manager and arranged my workload through my team to address repairs.

Domestic Cleaner

Ashgrove Nursing Home
10.2018 - 08.2019
  • Tasks: Ensuring resident safety and privacy, cleaning and sanitising resident rooms and bathrooms.
  • Skills Used: Teamworking, health and safety preparedness, handling cleaning equipment including harsh chemicals, calmness under pressure.
  • With up to 35 residents with Alzheimer's or dementia I learned empathy and resilience. On a number of occasions I faced verbal abuse from residents, but remained calm, notified the nurses and managers and continued my work. Once, I calmed a resident down by handing them familiar items such as teddy bears to improve their mood.
