Head Concert Manager
University of Manchester Music Society
Manchester
07.2022 - 01.2023
A senior management role in the University of Manchester Music Society, the biggest of its kind in the UK. This role had many facets, including:
Planning the rehearsal schedule for all the ensembles in the music society, including its vocal focused and opera subsections. Doing this was a very complex task, having to factor in availability and suitability of rooms in the music building, requirements of the ensembles (access to percussion instruments etc), schedules of the ensemble leaders and ensure that no two major ensembles where held at the same time.
Making stage plans for each orchestra rotation and communicating this to the music building staff to ensure the correct number of stands, chairs etc where set up for each rehearsal.
Plan detailed rehearsal schedules for twice weekly orchestra rehearsals, factoring in the avalibilty of four different conductors, soloists etc.
Keep in constant communication with programmers, librarians and personnel to ensure music was being ordered and the correct instruments seated for that rotation. I would then contact players to inform them they had been seated and finding alteratives if they declined their seat.
Planning the movement of instruments and equiptment between venues and organising insurance for them.
Training and managing a team of Concert Managers who would be present at rehearsals, take attendance etc.
