I was a resident doctor in Anaesthesia for over 6 years from January 2014-October 2020 with a wide range of experience both in general and regional anaesthetic techniques, and exposure to care of patients in intensive care unit including tracheostomy care and ventilatory support in critically ill-patients.   • The department of Anaesthesia has 5 consultants Anaesthetists,7 senior registrars,9 junior registrars,4 Medical Officers,6 Nurse Anaesthetists, and 3 Anaesthetic technicians with an average of 2-4 elective surgeries done in a day per theatre
  • The average hour per week is 40-64 hours inclusive of call duties
  • A minimum of 2(two) 24 hours call in a week is undertaken by all the resident doctors in the department
  • My duties include: Call duty in the operating theatre for all surgical emergencies
  • Pre-operative assessment of booked elective surgeries
  • Resuscitation and anaesthetizing patients for emergency and elective surgeries
  • Participation in all academic activities of the department including clinical meetings, morbidity and mortality reviews and journal review
  • Participate in teaching sessions (formal and informal) for junior residents, nurse Anaesthetists and Anaesthetic technicians
  • A typical day routine involves pre-operative assessment and preparation of surgical patients including emergency resuscitation, venipuncture, IV cannulation and administration of Anaesthetics

  • Interpreted laboratory results and diagnostic tests to diagnose medical conditions.
  • When on call in ICU, I was responsible for the management of critically ill patients in the ICU
  • This involves airway management, mechanical ventilation, monitoring, administration of inotropes, analgesics, antibiotics, sedatives and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
