In 2025 I decided to take the opportunity to volunteer with the Class 50 alliance at Kidderminster TMD. During my time with the alliance i have gained lots of knowledge both specific to the locomotives themselves and the of the wider operation of the railway.

In addition to maintenance duties I have recently been put forward to progress into an operational role as a shunter.

Responsibilities

• Measurement of incoming goods using a multitude of different tools, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges and CMM.
• Processing and resolving customer warranty claims.
• Creating and processing Customer, supplier and internal NCRs.
• Fault investigation and rectification on failed products.
• Communicating with customers to organise returns and replacement parts
• communicating with suppliers to notify them of non conforming components and organise corrective action.

Responsibilities

• Programming and operation of a CMM using Zone 3 Software.
• Producing PPAP documentation for new parts.
• Measurement of new tooling components.
• Communicating with other departments to make them aware of dimensional issues with both parts and tooling.
• Contributing to weekly product development meetings.

Responsibilities

• Speaking to production staff to ensure quality guidelines were adhered to.
• Monitoring inspection data.
• Gaining knowledge around using metrology tools like 3D scanners.
• Interpreting engineering drawings.
• Contacting and communicating with suppliers.
• Collecting and entering data into Excel documents.
• Inspecting Parts.
• Delivering objectives to deadlines.
• Working within a small team.

• Ensuring food leaving the kitchen is correct and of a high standard.
• Taking card and cash payments from customers.
• Managing in person and over the phone customer enquiries regarding functions and table bookings.

As part of my college course I was required to complete 160 hours of work experience.

• Carrying out tensile and geometric tests on samples.
• Filling out documentation accurately.

I have always had an interest in engineering and mechanics and in 2019 the opportunity arose for me to work unpaid at a local to gain work experience.

Responsibilities

• Servicing and repairs on a wide variety of cars and motorcycles.
• Pre delivery inspections on new motorcycles.
• Final assembly of new motorcycles.
