Thirteen years experience Game Shoot Proprietor ~ first shoot in South Yorkshire to implement a Wild Bird Cover Crop planting scheme, on a disused pit stack. This increased biodiversity, including doubling sky lark breading pairs, a 300% increase in the brown hare population and the first breeding pair of long eared owls in living memory according to the local bird watching group.

Feeding the local wetlands and predator control, combined with limited game bird release, attracted a breeding pair of Goshawks not seen in that area in 25 years.

Limiting the release of reared mallard, increased the overall wildfowl numbers offering alternative feeding grounds for wildfowl from the nearby area. Increased Teal numbers allowed for limited sporting opportunities on a sustainable wild population.

My keeper and I managed to stamp out badger baiting, which was sadly prevalent on the land prior to me taking on the shoot. Consequently the badger population recovered beyond pre-poaching levels .

My team helped construct a 'badger hotel' by repurposing a disused sewerage bed and block house using the old electricity supply to run CCTV to monitor the activities of the 'residents'.

Brown hare population which was severely depleted due to poaching, but by policing the land, planting cover crops hares became a common site.

Planting scheme for oak trees in designated 'Ancient Woodland' to offset grey squirrel control.

Grey squirrel control combined with owl boxes and bird boxes with metal entry ports increased the population of owls, woodpeckers and song birds.

Development of strong negotiating skills with land owners, tenants and local wildlife groups.

Good public relations skills resulting in Shortwood Shoot being featured in Shooting Times and local press.

Many years experience of dealing with the public, operating a game shoot in rural areas heavily used by the public required local stakeholders cooperation.
