I have worked in the social care sector my entire working life. I am a fully qualified Social Worker with a level 3 City and Guilds Diploma in working with children and young people. I also hold levels 1 and 2 counselling skills. So far I have spent my career working with women and their children who have been trafficked, supporting them to re build their lives, confidence and recover from trauma.
For some time and I have been keen to move into a more child centred area of work. In my current role I very much enjoy the work around children's needs such as liaising with schools, health visitors and social workers. I enjoy supporting clients with parenting and empowering them with resources, knowledge and support to address their children's needs.
I have a full driving licence and access to a car. I am flexible and adaptable and enjoy working as part of a team
I have been supporting survivors of human trafficking/ modern slavery under the Home Office Modern Slavery Victim Care Service. I work with women, men and their dependent children. My role involves:
Carrying out assessments of potential victims of human trafficking
Compiling support plans to address their recovery needs
Supporting service users to access legal advice
Supporting service users to access specialist counselling and sourcing funding to do so
Working closely with the South Wales police regarding any criminal investigations and contributing to Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conferences [MARACs]
Addressing safeguarding needs and managing complex risk
Ensuring dependent children are able to access education
Ensuring service users and their children have access to a GP and other necessary health services
Assisting service users to access benefits and appropriate housing / accommodation
Assisting service users to have access to adult education and personal development opportunities
Updating and maintaining accurate care notes, support plans and risk assessments
Contributing to research and the development of support services for victims of trafficking / modern slavery which included international travel
Providing training to organisations on supporting victims of human trafficking and modern slavery
I supported young people aged between 16 and 25 years old with Autism, in a residential educational college
Supporting children with developmental disabilities and autism in a recreational residential support camp in Ohio USA
Supporting patients on a general medical NHS hospital ward and providing healthcare related support
Supporting Adults with learning disabilities in a 9 bed residential home
