Ifeyinwa Rita Ochonogor

• The Occupational Health and Safety division of the public health department of the Federal Ministry of Health in Nigeria was responsible for developing and implementing protocols and procedures to ensure that workers received the necessary medical care and support to promote health and well-being of workers, across the country and as Biomedical Laboratory Scientist in this department, I worked alongside a team of health professionals to analyze a variety of laboratory tests that assist in identifying and preventing work related illness.

Key Responsibilities

• Surveillance visits to factories,to investigate and identify potential hazards in the work place.
• Performed laboratory tests/analysis to diagnose diverse diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, viral infections, and others.
• Contributed to the development of strategy and policies relating to public health matters.
• Trained some scientific officers on the proper use of PPEs in the workplace with the aim of promoting health and safety in the workplace.
• Worked with a team of health professionals such as physicians and nurses to execute health seminars and workshops/training for the public on health matters.
• Analyzed and interpret data using statistical software.

Key Achievements

• Was a part of the team that created the COVID-19 prevention and control protocol in workplaces
• I prepared and presented of health seminars amongst workers
• Mentored and supervised both students and junior Scientists on internship program.
• Maintained strict adherence to laboratory guidelines and regulations, verifying safety and protective procedures.

• Gather views and experiences from the community and feedback both to NHS and council
• Together with a group of other stakeholders, I helped identify factors that cause obesity/overweight in Havering and developed a plan that should be put into action to manage it.
• Used coordination and planning skills to achieve results according to schedule.
• Learned new skills and applied to daily tasks to improve efficiency and productivity.
