  • Chavasse ward
  • On chavasse ward we care for patients with conditions such as MS, Parkinsons, Motor Neurone Disease, Myasthenia Gravis, Deep Brain Stimulators and Spinal Cord Stimulators. We also look after patients with epilepsy and during the week we have telemetry. Video telemetry is a diagnostic procedure used to monitor and record a patient's brain activity and behavior simultaneously. It involves placing electrodes on the patient's scalp to measure electrical signals in the brain (EEG) while recording their behavior on video. Video telemetry is commonly used in the evaluation and diagnosis of epilepsy and other seizure disorders. It helps healthcare providers identify the type of seizure, determine the appropriate treatment, and evaluate its effectiveness.
  • Participate in medication and pain management; ensuring that the 5 rights of medication in implemented in process to reduce medication errors.
  • Writing up nursing care plan to achieve person-centered care and increase patients safety.
  • Inserted a Nasogastric tube feeding on a patient, completed a NG feed regime and administered medication via NG tube Feed.
  • Self directed study on neurological conditions such as Encephalitis, Motor neuron disease and Myasthenia gravis
  • Observed alongside neurologist to learn how video telemetry works. the aim of a video telemetry is to record paroxysmal events which helps to distinguish epileptic and dissociative seizures.
  • Observed along side specialist nurses such as blood transfusion nurses. Their role consist of performing blood transfusion therapy such as plasma exchange.

  • Our cardiac patients cover AVR/MVR/TVR (Aortic/Mitral/Tricuspid valve placements or repairs). CABG (Coronary artery bypass grafts) Aneurysms Aortic dissections, TAVI (transcatheter implantation of prosthetic aortic valve) and many more.
  • Our patients might have Ischemic heart disease (reduced blood supply) of the heart, Coronary heart disease (CHD) Congenital heart disease, Valvular disease (Valves of the heart) Pulmonary heart disease, Heart rhythm disorders, Rheumatic heart disease, endocarditis or atherosclerosis but to name a few.
  • Our thoracic patients cover Video-Assisted Thoracoscopy Surgery (VATS), bronchoscopy, mediastinoscopy, bilobectomy, pneumonectomy, thoracotomy, decortication, tube thoracostomy and pericardial Window
