Summary

My experience as a health care practitioner covers a period of nearly 34 years, both in the NHS and the private sector. Beginning my career as a support worker i have gained a wealth of skills and knowledge over the years and have worked in areas including theatres, sterile services, endoscopy and general surgical and medical wards. My focus on the operating theatre and as an operating dept. practitioner has been since qualifying in 2008. Coming up to date my role as a senior operating dept practitioner, i have continued my previous role within the operating dept complex but now also partake in some administrative tasks, inc ordering of stock, completion of audits, allocation of staff for operating lists and general leadership and management of staff inc annual leave and sickness. Day to day my role as a senior Band 6 practitioner primarily covers acting as a scrub practitioner working in numerous specialities including but not limited to, General, Gynaecology, Urology, ENT, Plastics and Trauma surgery. I also from time to time work as both an anaesthetic and recovery practitioner but this is somewhat limited due to my continued focus on scrub. Acting as a team leader i not only aim to deliver excellent patient care but also to support and inspire my fellow colleagues and the wider multi disciplinary team. From insuring that all equipment is to hand and all relevant sets and supplementary items are set up and available, this may also include video stack systems, specialist surgical equipment and ancillary items are in theatre and are fully functional. Often working alongside student ODPs, my time is often spent mentoring within these surgical areas and offering my knowledge, skills and experience of the operating theatre complex. I believe that organisation and communication are key to the theatre practitioner role and pride myself on such attributes and see this as a vital part of my everyday working.

I believe i offer a strong foundation in patient care and teamwork. Knowledgeable about sterile techniques, surgical procedures, and healthcare protocols and ready to use and develop communication, critical thinking, and organisational skills.

I believe i am a driven professional with a solid commitment to delivering excellent patient care and also consistent working practises. I also recognise my own limitations and strive to continue my learning in any relevant areas and welcome any opportunity to do so. Particular interests would include Leadership skills and further knowledge of surgical specialities that are less familiar to myself.
