Affiliations

  • I enjoy gardening and landscaping and have completed many projects at home. I am currently taking a short course in Horticulture through Accrington and Rossendale College. I like to keep active and enjoy walking and spending time with my family. I particularly enjoy travelling abroad and experiencing different cultures. In recent years I have also enjoyed learning to play the guitar and have regularly played in school at whole school events.

Accomplishments

I was invited to meet Prince Charles for the work I did as part of a team, bringing Place2Be to Burnley to work across several schools supporting pupils experiencing trauma and adverse childhood experiences.

I was invited to take my class to Burnley Town Hall to perform an assembly I wrote about standing up to Racism.

I used to play rugby for Burnley and represented Lancashire for a number of seasons and maintain a keen interest in the sport.

I have completed the London Marathon and Great North Run raising money for different charities.

Certification

Trauma Informed Practitioner: Developed counselling-type skills (eg, empathy, listening, validation, seeing the bigger picture)

Mental Health First Aider: Developed a greater understanding of mental health issues and how to advise adults and young people


Voluntary Work

I have been a co-opted governor at Cherryfold Primary School in Burnley for 10 years. In addition to attending governor meetings I was the nominated governor for Curriculum Development. I also attended additional meetings for staff discipline and pupil exclusions (as required).
