I have been working at ELE Advanced Technologies for the past 14 years and feel it is now time for a new challenge. During my time here I have developed the companies CMM department from having two machines doing a limited amount of final inspection to now having 15 machines, all of which are shop floor based and run using an operator interface programmed by myself in vb.net. To complement the shop floor machines I have developed an SPC system which provides operators with real time trend charts for each dimension being produced allowing processes to be continually optimised. The result of which has seen a dramatic improvement in process capability and the quality seen by the customer. As a further benefit to using CMM machines in process there is no longer a need to have a final inspection process on completion of the machining operations thus reducing the lead time of a set of components by up to three days in some cases. Whilst at ELE I have also made great efforts to reduce the measurement cycle times in order to maximise the capacity of the CMM machines. With the use of better fixture design and improved alignment techniques I have managed to cut times that before ranged from half an hour upwards to now in some cases 30 seconds
• PC DMIS CMM programmes for all new turbine blade and nozzle guide vane and seal segment designs and upgrades
• Created vb.net CMM user interface to allow unskilled operators to run shop floor CMM’s. This is also linked in to the ERP system to pull through serial number lists for parts being measured
• Created vb.net interface between PC DMIS and measurlink software.
• Created vb.net user interface for manual inspection forms
• Created SPC system linked to CMM software
• CMM Fixture design using Autodesk inventor and 3D printing
• Responsible for the running and up keep of the CMM laboratory and shop floor CMM’s
• Train CMM operators in the basics of CMM programming
• Train Shop Floor operators in the use of shop floor based CMM’s
• Maintenance of existing part programmes as per customers specifications and design changes
• Collate measured data in to customer inspection reports
• Created VBA macros compile, format and sort measurement data into customer formats saving at least 3 hours per set of components
• Liaise with customers on any issues relating to measurement
• Live visual management/dashborads combining data from cloud based ERP system, measurement data and T&A showing in real time which operators or machines are working on which jobs and giving a breakdown of time booked per cell/operator/machine as well as RFT and non-conformance data.
• Set and operate CMM and CNC gear measurement machines.
• Set and operate all forms of manual gear test equipment and test beds
• First principle inspection
• Supervise load testing of units for key customers
• Support key customer FAT tests
• In charge of inspection for large worm gear sets produced in the heavy machining cell
• Produce customer and internal quality reports and investigations in the form of 8D and NCR reports
• Support manufacturing cells in practical problem solving activities.
• Carry out customer PPAP activities
• Review and amend internal procedures
• Visit customers and suppliers in the UK and abroad
• Weekly / Monthly Pareto analysis of departmental scrap
• Set and operated all CNC and manual profile gear and worm thread grinding machines
• Produced and inspected precession worm gear sets for key customers
• Produced high quality helical gears for diesel engine applications
• Set and operated helical and worm and worm gear test beds
• Provided inspection cover outside of the inspection department's hours
• Trained numerous apprentices and skilled men to set and operate grinding and inspection machinery
• Booked in job cards in the absence of the cell manager
