I am an experienced, dedicated, hardworking, manager, leader and team member with transferable multi discipline skills with extensive experience in managing Countryside and Heritage Visitor attractions.
I am passionate about the value of being outdoors and the need to encourage more people to visit, enjoy and care for our threatened wildlife and open spaces.
I am very customer focused, always putting our visitors needs first, they are after all why we open our special places.
I am open and honest and I am an unambiguous communicator and my colleagues know that what I say is what I mean. I am trusted and this is why as Safeguarding officer and Mental Health 1st aider people come to me knowing that they will be treated with openness and compassion. The development of my teams is one of the things that give me most satisfaction and seeing them develop and move onwards and upwards is a joy.
I am proud to say that I believe everywhere I have been has improved in my care either fiscally, in compliance terms, in visitor numbers, in volunteer or visitor satisfaction scores or just have been a more inclusive and happy place to work.
As I have worked on the coal face, starting as a Volunteer Countryside Ranger in Birmingham, staffed visitor receptions, dealt with emergencies, been a ranger, spent hours litter picking etc I understand how a visitor operation works and this means that I can both empathise and support if a team or team member is struggling or know when to step in with guidance and a firmer hand if I believe the team is not performing.
I am analytical and competent at using data to help manage the business, be it accident trends, visitor comments, budget figures or other information that helps to focus our efforts.
I currently work across 4 sites spread throughout Herefordshire and directly line manage a team of 6 with a wider devolved team of 18 and have to be very focussed on where I spend my time in order to get the best out of my time and from others. I have become adept at prioritising demands and understanding where my focus should be but also being fleet of foot if my support is required at short notice.
I am very motivated to improve access to these special places not just physically but intellectually and with diversity and inclusivity to the fore, creating safe, welcoming places for everyone to enjoy.
On a personal note I like to think I am a nice, humorous, open and caring person to have in a team. People confide in me and as long as it does not suggest harm to them, someone else or their employers reputation then they know that this confidence will be held absolutely.
I lead the House and Garden teams across the Herefordshire Portfolio and am experienced in juggling the demands of geographically widely spread teams.
