Based in Gretna and Langholm I started as a Wedding Celebrant which involved conducting Marriage Ceremonies across Dumfries and Galloway including the Famous Old Blacksmith Shop at Gretna Green. I then applied and was successful for a Customer Service position which added to the previous role with Registrations of Birth and Deaths and the manning of the Library/Customer Service Centres in Gretna and Langholm dealing with customer requests for Bus Passes, Blue badges, Bulk Rubbish collection and the issue and receipt of books from the Library’s.
Enlisted as a Junior Soldier in 1977 into the Infantry. Progressed through the ranks to achieve the position of Regimental Sergeant Major in The King’s Regiment before commissioning into the Royal Logistics Corps and serving in that role until retirement at the end of December 2004.
I have had numerous roles with very high levels of responsibility which would make me an ideal candidate for this role
Whilst serving in the Armed Forces I spent 10 years as a Driving Examiner (which is an additional role in the Army running alongside your main roles) This would account for having every category of driving license as I would be required to take driving tests in all categories at short notice As an Ex Regimental Sergeant Major I have a good work ethic and I pride myself on being well turned out and operated to high levels of personal conduct Having driven all types of vehicles in all terrains I am used to conducting pre use inspections and road worthiness checks
I have a great deal of experience in DIY including Painting, Decorating, Joinery, basic plumbing issues (tap changing, installing new u-bends etc), building and installing shelving and construction of flat packed furniture Using a petrol lawnmower Happy with ladder work and have previously cleaned and renovated guttering and down pipes
