I have a split role at school at the present time, in the mornings for 3 lessons I an a High Level Teaching Assistant and mentor students with various requirements. These can vary from low self esteem, low confidence, home problems, looked after children, special needs students, autistic students, deaf students, low ability students, attendance problems, and students with behavioural problems. These are mostly 121 situations or small groups. The students are initially referred from pastoral heads and I then complete some initial assessments with them and formulate a plan of how I can help them. Usually 1 lesson a week over a 6 week period. During the last lesson they are reassessed to compare with initial report. In the afternoons I maintain the site, tidying, cutting grass, trimming bushes, litter picking and looking after my mentoring area called "The Diggery"
I started as a Science teacher specialising Biology and General Science but because of work history I took over the role of Head of Careers which developed into Head of PHSE. During this time it was also my responsibility to organise Y10 Work Experience and coordinate relationships with various local colleges, charities, firms and work providers.
