1 . Paediatrics

• Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU): Assessed and managed unwell neonates during daily consultant-led ward rounds. Gained experience in procedures including cannulation, lumbar puncture, airway management, blood gas analysis.
• Newborn Ward: Conducted newborn examinations, managed common conditions e.g Jaundice and respiratory distress.
• Labour & Delivery: Attended emergency Caesarean sections and complex vaginal deliveries, providing neonatal resuscitation.
• Paediatrics: Participated in ward rounds, outpatient clinics, and managed acute cases.
• Safeguarding & Child Protection: Involved in recognising and escalating safeguarding concerns.

2. Otolaryngology (Ear, nose and Throat surgery)

• Initial diagnosis and management of common ENT emergencies including Epistaxis, respiratory distress, trauma, parapharyngeal abscess, foreign body in ear, sudden hearing loss, etc
• Experience in procedures including otoscope examination, Microsuction, removal of foreign bodies, nasal packing, pope wick insertion, drainage of haematomas, fibre-optic nasal endoscopy, audiogram and its interpretation, drainage of abscesses.
• Attended adult and children clinics, head and neck cancer multi-disciplinary meetings.
• Assisted in tracheostomy care, including tube changes and suctioning.

3. Hospice Palliative care

• Daily management of common symptoms in terminal patients including nausea, pain, breathlessness, agitation.
• Reviewing and titrating end-of-life medications based on patient needs and comfort
• Holding sensitive discussions about prognosis, treatment goals, and end-of-life care preferences, as well as providing emotional support
• Multidisciplinary meetings with physical and occupational therapists, nurses, emotional well being team, etc
• Filling out death certificates and handling end-of-life documentation.

Radio-oncology

• Close monitoring of patients and treatment plans adjusted as necessary. Administering chemotherapy to cancer patients, closely monitoring their reactions and side effects. Additionally, I participated in outpatient clinics, where I assisted in diagnosing, treating, and managing a range of medical conditions, providing ongoing care and support to patients while coordinating with specialists when needed.

Surgery

• Rotation in sub specialities including General surgery, Burns and plastics Surgery, Emergency Surgery .
• Duties included Pre-operative assessments, Daily ward rounds, Wound suturing and burn unit care. Assisted in surgeries (mastectomy, colectomy, debridement, skin grafting). Post-operative monitoring

Obstetrics and Gynaecology

• Rotation in sub specialities including Oncology and pathology, Antenatal clinic, Emergency and Labour ward
• Obligations were Clerking in new patients to the Antenatal clinic, Observing and taking deliveries on the Labour ward, Weekly Multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, ward based Chemotherapy administration and assisting in surgical procedures (Cesarean sections, Hysterectomy, myomectomy, etc)

Medicine

• Rotation in sub specialities Nephrology, Acute medical unit and Infectious disease
• Responsibilities were Daily ward rounds, on call duties, weekly departmental clinical presentation meetings, weekly HIV clinic days, Initiating and Monitoring patients on Dialysis
• Involved in commencement of ART and monitoring ward based patients
