P&I Claims Senior Executive

I am employed by NorthStandard as a P&I Claims Senior Executive. My primary responsibilities are comprised of crew claims, third parties, and stowaways. I actively participate in the Club's Personal Injury expertise team, of which I am a Member.


My responsibilities and duties include:


  • Assessment of Members' liabilities under contracts, contracts of employment, statutory law and tort.
  • Review of Letters of Indemnity and advices to Members regarding their potential liabilities.
  • Developed Club's mental health initiative, "My Mind Matters", in 2018 and continue to manage the initiative with liaison with different departments across the Club and external parties.
  • Club lead for occupational disease claims having represented North at the International Group Occupational Diseases Committee until the Club's merge with Standard Club in 2023.
  • Organised Occupational Disease seminars with the International Group for other IG Clubs and Lawyers.
  • Assisting our Members with non-covered matters such as where drugs are found on board and the crew require assistance locally.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with our Membership including provision of training and travel.
  • Mentoring and guiding junior Members of staff with claims management and advices.
  • Participated in reverse mentoring of Senior Leadership with regular contact with Chief Strategy Officer. Mentoring has continued outside of programme with excellent relationship with a senior leader.

My role at Winn Solicitors was initially as an administrative assistant. I was promoted to a paralegal within six weeks and commenced my training contract in December 2011.


  • Managed heavy caseloads, maintaining exceptional attention to detail under pressure.
  • Worked with caseload of predominantly litigated, disputed liability claims.
  • Assisted in resolution of claims where the client had raised complaints, bringing the matter to a swift and satisfactory conclusion.
  • Responsible for the management, development and supervision of a junior paralegal.
  • Firm lead on uninsured and untraced driver claims presented to the Motor Insurance Bureau.
  • Member of the technical claims team, specialising in multi-party litigation, counter claims and more serious injuries.
  • Attended Court and performed advocacy for infant settlement hearings, case management conferences and Applications.
  • Developed strong negotiation skills to bring matters to an effective conclusion as soon as possible.
