Letter of Reference – Henry Packer
We were very pleased to welcome Henry to our practice to undertake a week of work experience between the dates of 31st March 2025 – 4th April 2025.
During the week he has attended the office punctually and worked diligently. We gave Harry a variety of tasks mainly related to architectural design concepts.
We first gave him a brief overview of how to use our CAD software (Autocad) and then gave him a variety of designs for him to draw using the software to help familiarise him with the drawing commands. These were all completed well and in good time.
The second task was a design exercise to design the internal layout of a large 3-storey detached house. Given the choice Henry preferred to undertake this work by hand rather than doing the designs directly on the computer.
The sketches he came up with were actually very good for someone completely new this sort of space planning work. He very quickly understood working at the scale of the drawings and showed a good understanding of the space needed of different rooms and how the rooms related to each other.
The third task was to design some housing estate layouts for small housing developments of between 10 and 20 houses. Again, Henry quickly understood the brief he was given and adapted to working on drawings at a much smaller scale. The layouts produced were very commendable and with some constructive feedback the layouts improved showing Henry understood and took on board the feedback.
The final task was to design a one-off house from scratch, working to some specific site constraints. The floor layout and designs were again excellent and showed a good understanding of how the designs need to be thought about in 3 dimensions.
Overall, it has been a pleasure to be able to provide work experience for Henry and we wish him well in whatever future career he chooses.
Yours sincerely
Nigel Rose BA(hons) DipArch RIBA Director – Harding Rose Architects
