I have just graduated with an Upper Second Class in BA (Hons) International Relations from Loughborough University. I am now currently embarking in a MSc Masters in International Business and have interests in Public Relations, Human Resources, Mitigating Risks, and DEI Initiatives.
My tenure as the AAIR Representative for my university accommodation primarily placed me into a position of care for international and returning students. I strived to create a welcoming, warm, and safe environment for the above-mentioned students. Tasks within this role included event management, event planning, and setting up support systems. Ultimately, this role contributed to my commitment to promote and foster diversify and inclusion.
During my studies, giving back to my community was inherently important to me. I was successfully elected as the Part B International Relations Student Representative, while also volunteering through Loughborough University's Action programme. Through this programme, I gave back to the local community by gardening at a local primary school, and volunteering at the annual Loughborough University's children's fair. My volunteering began in year 13, when i was heavily involved in organizing and running a charity event for my school, which raised £300 for the charity Humanitas.
To begin my volunteering work at university, I ran a successful campaign to be elected as the Social Secretary for my university accommodation where I was voted in with over 80% of the vote. Within this role, I was responsible for managing, organizing, and running events for over 480 students. During event planning, liaising with suppliers, managing budgets, adhering to safety protocols, writing detailed risk assessments and adhering to strict deadlines was paramount. During this role, I collaborated with the Welfare & Diversity team to foster inclusive and diverse events that everyone could participate in.
During this internship, I was able to apply skills learned during my sixth form studies to real and pressing work tasks. Tasks that I completed include file archiving/closure, marking up remittance advices for cash posting, contacting Counsel by phone for missing information, contacting Counsel by phone or email for a copy of bills and VAT receipts, updating the firm’s records with email addresses, reconciling unpaid Counsel fee notes to the firm’s records, and engaging with partners for specimen signatures, filing, client research and preparing client matter data reports.
