Technical Skills

  • AutoCAD - I began using 2D CAD software; AutoCAD, during my work experience and then began exploring 3D CAD in my free time.
  • Fusion 360 - Designed multiple fully functional parts to fix problems, under specific constraints. Considered measurements and manufacturing limitations when including tolerances in my prototypes.
  • SolidWorks - Recreated a component from my work experience, and I am currently gaining familiarity and exploring its potential compared with Fusion 360.
  • Optimised and maintained my own 3D printer. Calibrated settings to optimise quality and efficiency when using different materials and mechanical requirements. I troubleshot different print failures and resolved them to increase print quality.
  • I have used vernier calipers to measure existing parts reliably in order to produce accurate operational replicas. As well as using other measuring techniques, such as micrometers, gauge blocks, groove micrometers, and a CMM to ensure tolerances are maintained when mass-producing parts on a CNC lathe.

Employment

March 2026 - Current

Pool Lifeguard Mill Farm Caravan & Camping Park, Fiddington, Somerset

  • Created a family-friendly environment at a busy commercial pool by enforcing pool rules.

September 2025 - Current

Pool Lifeguard Going Horizontal, Bridgwater, Somerset

  • Monitored pool and poolside to ensure safety, supporting effective teaching and promoting confident swimming.

Activities

  • I trained with dedication and commitment for 6 months, managed and overcame an injury during training by adapting my existing fitness regime in order to run AJ Bell Bristol Half Marathon 2026 with a time of 1:53.
  • Completed DofE up to Silver, and I am currently completing my Gold. When getting lost during difficult weather conditions a team member and I assumed responsibility, communicated efficiently and precisely to lead the group to the checkpoint. We were able to stay calm in a high stress situation where others were struggling. This has taught me people skills, effective communication, leadership, composure, and ability to keep a cool-head.
  • Currently working towards my BMFA A certificate for RC Plane flying. I have been flying for about a year and use a simulator regularly to practice manoeuvres and my abilities in different weather situations.

Personal Profile

I am currently in my second year of A-level Maths, Physics, and Chemistry, and I am eager to pursue a degree apprenticeship in Aerospace Engineering. I am keen to gain proficiency in design, product development, and New Product Introduction. I already have a good foundation in CAD skills and problem analysis due to my own independent engineering projects, as well as experience in a CNC factory and NADCAP-accredited laboratory. I am keen to participate in challenging engineering projects, whilst developing my understanding and knowledge.

Engineering Experience

M-CNC Precision Engineering - August 2026

  • Experienced a range of different departments, including Planning, Quality Control, and Manufacturing. Gained more understanding of the responsibility each team has.
  • Observed 5-axis mills and helped load parts in and out of the machine. Additionally, I manufactured 250 parts on a CNC lathe, inspecting dimensions every 10 parts using measurement equipment such as micrometers and gauge blocks. Identified variance in tolerances, alerted my supervisor and learnt how the machine is adjusted to correct the issue.
  • Developed an understanding of how manufacturing restrictions influence component design.
  • Introduced to SolidWorks and designed a part during my placement. Independently recreated the part I manufactured on the lathes at home on my own SolidWorks account and proceeded to create it with my 3D Printer.

Aerofin Laboratories Ltd - August 2026

  • Performed multiple tests on different materials and solutions, including titrations, surface tension tests, viscosity testing, corrosion testing, and atomic absorption spectroscopy, as well as observing pH tests and calibrating pH probes. While I was there I produced a puck for testing surface coating uniformity, and inspected on a microscope for craters.
  • Compared results with my supervisors and the expected result to see whether the sample had passed. If my results didn't align with the clients' specified value, I repeated the test to check reliability.

Brian Jones Structural Engineers Ltd - July 2024

  • Produced a 2D house plan on AutoCAD from architectural drawings. Used a digital tape measure to accurately measure the floor plan of the office building, and then transferred it to CAD. Drew up a set of plans from one of my supervisors projects.
  • Shadowed a client meeting, along with observing a measure up and note taking, helping me understand how effective communication and measurements aid engineering work.

Engineering Projects

TVR Seatbelt Cover

  • Designed a replacement for a broken TVR seat-belt cover as an original replacement wasn't possible. I attempted to measure the part with calipers and model it on Fusion 360.
  • I 3D printed the base of the part and found that using calipers for an organic shape wasn't accurate enough. So I drew around the base on 5 mm squared paper, and transferred these measurements to Fusion 360. This was far more accurate, but required around 15 iterations to achieve a good fit.
  • Developed it into a 3D component - adding the walls, fillets, and screw holes. I used black PLA and a textured buildplate to resemble the original part's underside finish. I gave it back to the owner and he fitted it to the car.

Golf Aid

  • Designed from Scratch in Fusion 360, bought two lasers and incorporated them into the design. The aid helps the golfer visualise and feel when the club is on the same plane of rotation, so that you swing straight down onto the ball.
  • Measured different club shafts to calculate the mean shaft angle using trigonometry. Tapered the internal surface of the piece so it self-tightens on the shaft. Adjusted tolerances so the lasers fit better and now my Uncle uses it regularly to practice his swing.

Magnetic Rollable Travel Chess Set (Ongoing)

  • Designed a custom travel chess set after not being able to find one suitable. It features interlinked hinges for a rollable design, all squares are embedded with magnets so the pieces don't move. Testing during flight revealed that pieces remained in place during turbulence.
  • By testing different materials, I have observed that due to their spherical shape, ball bearings self-centre to magnets. I incorporated this into the pieces to help centre them. I prototyped the whole board after refining the hinge and magnet tolerances. During transport, magnets were meant to keep the board closed however; they aren't strong enough, so I will model a clip in the final version.

Peugeot 205 GTI roof-rack bracket

  • Tasked with creating a missing roof rack bracket from an existing opposite part. I measured it using callipers, and modelled it in Fusion 360. I then used the mirror tool to create the missing bracket.
  • Once in the slicer, I increased wall loops, infill, and top and bottom layers, as well as changing the infill type to gyroid, with the aim of increasing strength. Once printed and the supports were removed, I cut a piece of 2 mm rubber and glued it to the base of the print to protect the car and match the existing part. I gave it back to the owner, who continues to use it.

Additional Qualifications and Achievements

  • National Pool Lifeguard Qualification
  • First Aid at Work

  • Senior maths Challenge - 2026 - result pending
  • Silver DofE - currently completing Gold DofE
  • Volunteering at Avalon Camps - Working as a tent leader with children under 10 from disadvantaged backgrounds from Bristol
