  • After School Club: Duties involved the initial setting up and safe running of the facility which was based in the local community hall
  • This included working in collaboration with the Care Commission (Care Inspectorate), community education, local councillors and the parents who had campaigned for several years to make this service a reality
  • In my role as a front-line manager, I was responsible for devising policies, supervising staff, volunteers, and assessing practice, whilst undertaking the many other duties of this popular resource
  • This required competent planning and resource management, together with interpersonal, informational and decisional skills
  • I had to develop new skills swiftly and recognised communication to be the key
  • Youth Club: Also during this time, I was approached by a Community Education Manager with a view to develop and set-up a Youth Club/Drop-in Hub in the evenings
  • Experience of supervision was developed during my time managing a team of street youth workers
  • The team intervention enjoyed noted success when Police reported that the youth offending rate in the community had dropped significantly due to the project which operated for two years
  • During this time, I worked with various agencies, community leaders, residents and youths
  • Arranged for speakers to attend the club to educate on topics like Safe Sex, Alcohol and Drug Awareness
  • These events were led by the youth's and there were times when youth's shared their experiences with the wider community.
