I have been a Lupus Nurse specialist for almost four years now. I do four nurse-led clinics every week and run a helpline for Lupus and sometimes non-Lupus patients as well. As part of a Connective Tissue Disease (CTD) team, we conduct weekly multi-disciplinary team meetings. We work closely with other departments (Nephrology, Dermatology, Obstetrics). My role serves as a first point of contact for patients who have issues with their condition, e.g. flare, treatment and other concerns.
I was a clinical sister in the Rheumatology Infusion Suite where we administer drugs for patients under Rheumatology. This has started my journey in Rheumatology where I learned about the conditions and medications used in the department. This role also involved monitoring of drug treatment as well as patient education.
I was a band 5 nurse in the Haematology department who eventually managed to complete the Chemotherapy course. As one of the chemotherapy nurses, I was involved in the administration and monitoring of patients receiving cytotoxic treatments.
