Heidi Gray

Through my current role as a Band 5 Nurse in the Emergency Department, I have developed a strong foundation of clinical and communication skills to provide the highest standard of nursing care. My current role has enhanced my confidence and competencies in assessing, planning, and delivering high-standard care to patients presenting with a variety of diverse and complex needs.

I have gained valuable experience in many areas of clinical care, which include medication administration, monitoring and recording observations, recognising deterioration and escalating concerns appropriately, documentation, care planning and risk assessments to prioritise patient safety as well as gaining competencies in a range of clinical interventions and skills, including wound management and promoting healing, catheterisation, ECG monitoring, venepuncture and cannulation,.

I prioritise providing person-centred care and treating patients with dignity and respect at all times, communicating clearly and compassionately with patients, families, and colleagues. Effective communication is a key aspect of my role, working with the multidisciplinary team within the emergency department and throughout the hospital to prioritise care, and ensure the best outcomes for the patient.

As a bank healthcare assistant, my duties and responsibilities included providing essential support to patients and family members, helping the patient to maintain their quality of life and promoting patient independence. My role involved providing person-centred and holistic care that was individualised to each patient. This included assisting with the fundamentals of patient care tasks including, personal hygiene, bathing, grooming, nutritional needs, and promoting wellbeing, whilst ensuring that the privacy and dignity of the patient was not compromised.

An important aspect of the role was assessing and monitoring skin integrity to prevent complications and liaising with the nursing team and fellow healthcare professionals to implement preventative measures and to promote skin health. A key aspect of my role was to work closely with the nursing team and wider multi-disciplinary team, working in collaboration to ensure the patients care needs were met.

As a professional cleaner, I upheld excellent time management skills and was able to efficiently prioritise tasks to meet deadlines and exceed client expectations.

As a professional cleaner, I provided high levels of impeccable cleanliness, hygiene standards and attention to detail, whilst following company health and safety policies to ensure a safe work environment, all of which are transferable skills required when providing clean, hygienic, safe and organised environments for patients and colleagues. As a professional cleaner, I was held in high regard and in a trustworthy and reliable position, being entrusted with client personal keys and access to client's private homes.
