Affiliations

  • Outside of college I play cricket: under 18s for Batley Cricket Club and senior cricket for Wakefield Thornes Cricket Club and Wakefield St Michaels Cricket Club. I have captained all these teams which helped me build teamwork, leadership and communication skills. Since u9s, all the way to u18s, as captain I have a very high win rate, and I have recorded 4 cup wins out of 4 finals which highlights the trust my coaches have in me as I don’t let them down. I will be continuing to play cricket in the future as I love sport and keeping active. Cricket matches also help me to socialise with new people on other teams, which could help me in the workplace with fellow employees. Cricket also requires independence which developed my self-motivation, discipline and responsibility skills so I could perform well in front of the team and crowds.

Volunteering

I volunteered to do litter picking with a youth group around my area to keep the community clean. Whilst I was volunteering, it deepened my relationship with my peers which helped me develop my communication. Furthermore, I also volunteer at my local mosque at funerals or to help at gatherings as it helps me build relations with the local community. More than a decade ago, I gave a speech at a large protest which showed that I am a good orator. Doing this at a very young age of 6 in front of hundreds of people enhanced my confidence in speaking in front of others.
