I have worked at Edinburgh Airport since 2018, serving my 4 year apprenticeship here in which I gained my SVQF level 5 and HNC in electrical engineering. At the airport I’m part of an engineering shift team of 5, working in a fast-paced environment maintaining and responding to faults on a variety of electrical and mechanical systems. I am a motivated and reliable individual with hands on experience and I’m able to work effectively as part of a team, whilst also being comfortable working on my own when as and when required. I have experience working and communicating with different departments across the business to make sure the work operation runs smoothly. I perform effectively under pressure, responding quickly to diagnose and resolve critical asset breakdowns.
Working at the airport has provided me with a wide range of skills and experience which include:
Planned and reactive maintenance on electrical and mechanical systems such as baggage conveyer systems, this includes changing conveyer belts, motor gearboxes, drive rollers and general fault finding
Preventative maintenance such as weekly and monthly checks on assets such as Fixed electrical ground power units, Generator on load tests and other various airport systems
Airfield Ground lighting which involves, replacing runway and taxiway lighting outages, isolating and earthing airfield circuits up too 1000v, changing transformers and constant current regulators, and monitoring the airfield control system
Maintenance on all aspects of HVAC systems including Air Handling Units, Fan Coil Units, BMS (trend), chillers and pumps
Experience working on computerised maintenance management system
Carrying out emergency repairs on all electrical, mechanical and building services as and when required
Maintaining and repairing door access systems which include door maglocks, CEM card readers and interface boards
