Having done three years of carpentry & joinery at college, I saw myself working in a workshop as a bench joiner. It was a small workshop that was ran by two older gentlemen, manufacturing mostly fire doors. The first few months, my job was to just watch, learn and keep the workshop clean and tidy, staying patient, hoping I will be given a chance. When I was, I did my best, using hand tools and small machinery with precision and accuracy, and personally knew I could produce what was asked of me. It ended up not working out due to negative attitudes towards me, and a feeling of unwontedness in the workspace.
A family run business where I mostly worked in the warehouse. I made sure that it was well kept and a tidy working space for all, tools were cleaned and put back on their allocated shelves. I also helped with heaving lifting and sometimes lend my assistance to costumers if needed. After the pandemic the business was not doing so well, so I strove and worked hard to help out and get it back on track. At the same time I also enrolled in a one year online college course in photography, so I only worked part time.
This opportunity was given to me by my college, starting off as working experience, then becoming fully employed. Working there was tough as most of the jobs I was given were sanding jobs, that being timber and sometimes metal. I felt used at this job, I understood that I was new and would get the unwanted tasks, but being promised that I could be involved in the projects around the workshop, felt like it was never going to happen. The boss was difficult and I personally new my skills can be used somewhere else.
