I have worked the past 9 years as a sub-contractor for Drager Medical in hospitals across the UK, installing medical pendants and operating theatre lighting systems. Very few operatives exist in the UK for this role, which demands a high level of competence, training, problem solving, physical labour and proficiency with tools. My time in the role shows that I have committed to an employer who has invested time and training into my professional development, which is bolstered by my past and present qualifications. These include CSCS, ECS, PASMA, SSSTS, First Aid at Work, Asbestos Awareness, Manual Handling, Confined Spaces Level 3 Search & Rescue and multiple Drager Academy certificates. It also shows my eagerness to learn, retention of knowledge and competence within my role, as the slightest of mistakes could eventually be detrimental to the well-being of future patients of hospitals. Teamwork is a large part of my role, requiring collaboration with colleagues, NHS Trust members, NHS ward staff and various building contractors to ensure projects are fully and safely completed by their set deadlines.
In 2023 I spent 3 months roofing through the summer. I did so because a close friend was in desperate need of a partner and I thought it was a perfect opportunity to challenge myself and further develop my skillset. However brief my time was working as a roofer, it helped tremendously with developing better time management skills, discipline and attention to detail. This has been further implemented into my current role, which has been recognised by my employer.
