HARRIS MCCALLUM

Glasgow

Summary

I am a Building Services BIM professional with experience in BIM coordination, Revit modelling and the delivery of coordinated mechanical, electrical and public health (MEP) building services information across a range of complex construction projects.

My experience includes working on major healthcare, custodial and community developments, where I have collaborated with engineers, design teams and construction professionals to produce accurate 3D models, coordinated drawings and construction-ready information. I have developed strong technical knowledge of building services through both practical offsite prefabrication experience and digital design, giving me an understanding of how coordinated models translate into real-world installation.

In my current role, I am working on the HMP Glasgow project as a BIM Coordinator, supporting the development and coordination of building services models using Autodesk Revit. My responsibilities include coordinating services across multiple houseblock models, developing technical pipework models, producing plans, sections and drawing sheets, and maintaining consistency across repeated building layouts. I also look for opportunities to improve modelling workflows, streamline documentation and increase efficiency through standardisation and automation.

Throughout my career, I have contributed to projects including HMP Highland, the Baird Family Hospital and ANCHOR Centre, and the Strathclyde Water Park redevelopment. These experiences have strengthened my understanding of multidisciplinary coordination, model accuracy, technical documentation and the importance of delivering reliable BIM information to support successful project outcomes.

My technical skill set includes Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, BIM 360, 3D modelling and building services design, supported by an HNC in Building Services Engineering.

I am passionate about digital construction, continuous professional development and finding smarter, more efficient ways to coordinate building services. I aim to contribute to projects by improving model quality, supporting collaboration, reducing the potential for on-site clashes and rework, and helping deliver accurate, coordinated information from design through to construction.

BIM Coordinator | FES | HMP Glasgow Project

Currently working as a BIM Coordinator at FES, contributing to the delivery of the HMP Glasgow project, a major custodial development requiring detailed coordination, accurate information management and high-quality Building Information Modelling (BIM).

My role involves developing, coordinating and maintaining detailed MEP models using Autodesk Revit, ensuring building services information is accurately represented and coordinated with the wider project design.

Key Responsibilities & Contributions

• BIM Modelling & Coordination: Developing and maintaining detailed Revit models for building services, ensuring model accuracy, consistency and compliance with project requirements.

• MEP Services Coordination: Coordinating mechanical and electrical building services within the digital model, identifying potential spatial conflicts and helping resolve coordination issues before they impact installation on site.

• Revit Model Management: Managing and updating project models to reflect design changes, maintain accurate information and support coordination between different disciplines.

• Houseblock Model Coordination: Working across five separate houseblock models (A, B, C, D and X), maintaining consistency across repeated building layouts and supporting efficient delivery through the reuse and coordination of modelled information.

• Technical Detailing: Modeled building services components and pipework, including dry riser systems, and developed plans and section views to effectively communicate design intent.

• Construction Documentation: Producing coordinated Revit views, plans, sections and drawing sheets to support technical reviews, design coordination and construction activities.

• BIM Efficiency & Standardisation: Streamlined repetitive modelling and documentation tasks, enhancing model consistency and minimising duplication of work.

• Design Coordination & Quality Assurance: Reviewing model information for accuracy, identifying discrepancies and supporting the delivery of coordinated information to project stakeholders.

• Digital Construction: Using BIM processes to improve visualisation, communication and collaboration between project teams, helping bridge the gap between design information and on-site installation.

Project Value & Impact

Working on HMP Glasgow provides valuable experience in the coordination and delivery of building services within a complex, security-sensitive construction environment. Accurate BIM information is essential to ensuring that services are properly coordinated, installation requirements are understood and design information can be communicated effectively across the project team.

Maintained consistent Revit models, developed construction-focused documentation, and improved modelling workflows across repeated houseblock layouts, contributing to efficient information production and enhanced coordination.

This role continues to develop my technical expertise in Autodesk Revit, BIM coordination, MEP modelling, construction documentation and digital construction delivery.

Pre Fabrication traineeship

FES
01.2019 - 12.2019
  • At Fes, the start of my engineering journey. I learned the basics and different pipe sizes, fittings and valves that are used in the industry. I would work in their workshop where they would construct modules that would contain both heating and chilled pipework and electrical services. One of my main duties was to make sure that all the modules and had the right pipe clip sizes on them... to do this,I first of all had read the module drawings that were made in the office on Revit, these would often have many sizes on them in regards to the pipework which therefor I had to go and arrange the pipe clips to match the diameter of pipe that require to be put on the modules. I would then install these clips using steel rods, plates, & nuts. This was purely a work experience job and helped me develop important knowledge and communication skills.

Project Highlights.

HMP HIGHLAND - SCOTTISH PRISON SERVICE (SPS), A new 70m fit-for-purpose replacement for the existing HMP Inverness, the project will address issues of overcrowding and the lack of facilities for rehabilitation. The new HMP Highland focuses on providing a community facing, family-friendly establishment to re-educate and reduce the prospect of repeat offending. Our architects are working with Scottish Prison Service (SPS) on the proposed building of a new Inverness prison from project inception through to RIBA stage 4. The new HMP Highland will replace the 115-year old Inverness Prison, one of the smallest and oldest jails in Scotland, becoming a community facing facility with a civic atmosphere, facilitating the transformation of prison resident's lives. HMP Highland is a departure from the current HMP Inverness and its institutional presence. An ambitious and forward thinking design ethos was established which focuses on rehabilitation and our solution needed to support the drive to enhance the quality of the estate by designing a contemporary, civic facility with calm, welcoming and safe spaces. We investigated how the perimeter wall could be part of the building and therefore using this to form the secure line but by introducing a wave in the wall which would soften the feel of the building frontage. Using the long winding wave through the site means that, from eye level, the building can never be viewed in its entirety, making it less oppressive to pedestrians or prison visitors. Transforming attitudes BakerHicks' architectural design enhances the community and is appropriate to the context of the Highland landscape and history of the site. The design transforms the visitor experience and attitudes towards custodial establishments with a focus on:- Efficient and effective use of space that enhances security, segregation and supervision of prisoners - A master plan with an efficient footprint - Coordinated infrastructure and substructure design - Innovative design which is practical, buildable, safe and secure Providing skills for rehabilitation The quality of the built environment remained important especially where visitors and occupants meet - contact visits can significantly improve prisoner behaviour, selfesteem and general wellbeing. The architectural, interior and landscape design directly influences this by: - Careful use of colours and lighting - Taking advantage of surrounding views and opening out spaces to the landscape - Improving privacy by manipulating acoustics with interior forms, textures and textile - An immediate, friendly and efficient process of allowing visitors into the site - Employing natural light and ventilation to improve the quality of internal spaces., MEP Revit Technician, I worked closely with mechanical and electrical engineers to produce a coordinated model and drawings., BAIRD & ANCHOR HOSPITAL - BAKERHICKS, The Baird Family Hospital and The ANCHOR Centre Project is a 261.1 million building development at the Foresterhill Health Campus in Aberdeen. This exciting project will result in two new buildings being opened on the site to support and enhance the provision of clinical care. Both buildings will include state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities and will offer person-centred environment of care., MEP Revit Technician, My Role in this project was to coordinate both Mechanical and Electrical services, and also provide a clash free 3D Model and create 2D sheets for on site.
