Hannah Simpson

• Black Girl Writers, is a free mentor programme, pairing aspiring writers with agents, editors and bestselling authors and established screenwriters.
• I was grateful to be accepted onto this programme where I have been developing my spec script with my mentor Cesca Major. Cesca is a novelist and screenwriter, with several projects in development with Sky Studios, BBC and Monumental television.

• Working alongside journalists, producers, directors, and presenters to deliver news output within a live broadcasting environment
• Booking guests for live interviews
• Often acting beyond my role to produce the Paper Review and Film Review
• Edit and distribute packages, b-roll and pre-recorded material for output in a timely manner.

• Working with story- liners, script editors and screenwriters to ensure storytelling is realistic and accurate as possible
• Gathering research from advisors, charities, case studies and presenting these findings to editorial departments
• Having a understanding of what makes a compelling story and pitching these ideas to the story team producers for the future
• During this role, I also shadowed story-liners and wrote a trial script for EastEnders.

• Helped the My World YouTube channel grow by presenting and creating their #shorts videos - so far, the channel has over one million views
• Successfully pitched and contributed to the daily production of original journalism and complex editorial issues
• Possessed the ability to present, self-shoot and edit digital videos
• The videos I have produced are also published on other BBC Outlets including the BBC News Instagram account which has over 19 million followers

• Liaised with parents and agents to source contributors who are under 18.

- Created content for the Regenerators campaign which encourages children aged 5-14 to live a greener life.
- Worked with the assistant producers to build content pages for the website and wrote core articles for the content pages.
- Cleared video content with Production Management.
- Clipped up and uploaded pan BBC videos using iSite.
- Made bespoke social content, liaising with teens and parent’s social channels to prep assets (images, GIFs, videos, IFGX)
- Attended various video shoots on location and helped with the organisation of the shoot.

- Used a range of programs including Jupiter, Castaway and CPS to publish videos onto the BBC website.
- Worked with senior journalists to edit and correct mistakes on previous articles and videos.
- Using editing software such as Final Cut pro to edit videos daily for on the day stories.

- Gained a solid knowledge of using social media platforms and analytics tools.
- Created accurate and informative stories using pictures, videos and other interactive digital storytelling to build and grow audience engagement.
- Contributor research – advertising for contributors online through social media, phone and zoom interviews.
- Worked with a range of contributors from across the world. One of my favourite interviews was when I spoke to Nada-Al Ahdal, a human rights activist who risked her life to escape from child marriage.
- Coordinating pre-recorded material and self-shooting using green screens.
- I have pitched and edited several story ideas which have been published as video explainers for social media and the BBC News website. E.g https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/science-environment-54165868
