When I was 17 years old, I completed the Gold Duke of Edinburgh award. This involved several practice excursions followed by a four day walking challenge in the Lake District where, in a group of four, I covered 40 kilometres of land, carrying our camping equipment, clothes and food. This tested not only my physical perseverance but my teamwork and coordination skills. As well as the walking excursion, I completed 18 months of one hour a week volunteering, the development of a personal skill over 12 months, developing a skill over 6 months, and a week of residential work. The whole experience widened my knowledge in certain areas and massively improved my self-confidence and level of determination.
