Summary

An enthusiastic, friendly student with experience with customer service through experience gained primarily as a receptionist and researcher at The Folklore Centre. This required being able to multitask as often someone was needed to run reception. While also continuing researching for small exhibits to be put around the heritage museum this was accomplished due to being hard working and diligent with the assigned work as well as organised. Working as a volunteer meant having to learn how to be adaptable in working in different environments as The Folklore Centre required work in the shop or cafe at a moment's notice. Also required heavily developed communication skills and an ability to work with different people in teams. This was because the volunteers available on the same days changed consistently and would have to get to know different people each day. Working in customer service has allowed for development of skills in cleaning and keeping an environment presentable to the public. It has also helped with developing a cheery and helpful attitude in order to better help customers/visitors of the centre.

Receptionist Work

  • Required to greet first-time and returning visitors and direct them to the exhibits present and any new exhibits that had been added.
  • Had to be informed of all activities and events that were upcoming at The Folklore Centre and hand out the required leaflets.
  • Included helping run the little shop and keep an eye on the products
  • Also included encouraging visitors to donate a small amount of money as The Folklore Centre runs mostly on volunteers.

Researcher Work

  • Required to independently put together information to establish small exhibits.
  • This meant had to fact check the information and put in a nice format in a timely manner in the time I was able to volunteer.
  • This also required me to be self sufficient as was often left alone to do the work. Which meant writing 1000s of words and then editing down to make digestible to the general public.
