I have worked for 2 years at one of the big four firms along with receiving work experience from another big four and have overall enhanced my audit knowledge with the different areas that have been mentioned in my work history.
- Carried out substantive testing on different sections of the audit file including purchases (accruals, trade creditors, cost of sales, admin expenses)
- Used a variety of testing methods such as substantive analytical procedures to create an expectation and compare with recorded balances to gain an understanding for sections such as expenses and cost of sales.
- Mainly focused towards private enterprise with entities distributed in different sectors which helped me gain exposure on different audited companies.
- Other areas that were carried out were payroll, cash and cash equivalents, reserves reconciliations, other debtors and prepayments, other creditors and accruals.
- Started the role as a junior staff member and focused on working as a dessert artist, decorating doughnuts, churros and different delicacies.
- Obtained the manager position, where the business was opened and closed by me, with the owner overseeing my work.
- I trained up new hires on decorating the different products we sold, along with helping the owner with ideas on advertising and costing techniques.
- I worked in different parts of the business, including front of house where I communicated with customers, along with working in the back of house supporting the junior staff members and helping them to improve their craft at dessert making/decorating.
- Gained work experience on the Smart Futures programme run by EY which was a 10 month programme which included paid work along with learning employability skills and mentoring from current EY employees.
- Gained real experience in a corporate business and interacted with one of EY's employer partners.
- Had a mentor who supported me through the 10 month programme who gave useful and realistic advice to guide me through choosing which area of finance to get into.
