  • Head of Policy and Strategy for Broadcasting Content Standards; member of Standards and Audience Protection management team. Directly managing team of content standards senior associates and interns/apprentices.
  • Project Director tasked with first Review of UK VOD platforms' Audience Protection measures (age ratings/classification, content warnings, parental controls, age assurance) with new powers for Ofcom via Media Act 2024; part of team delivering new UK regulations and VOD Code protections for UK providers/Tier 1 services.
  • Project Director of new BBC Online Material Code (due 2025). Overseeing team focused on novel, complex analysis, stakeholder engagement, governance, prior to drafting code consultation and final statement, implementation of new online rules.
  • Oversight of policy and strategy implications of ongoing work to assess, investigate and draft decisions on regulated services' compliance with Ofcom's Broadcasting Code and On Demand Programme Service rules.

Protection of Children / Age Assurance Policy Lead

  • Ofcom's first policy lead for UK Govt Online Safety proposals for the protection of children. Worked with DCMS/HO on policy instructions, white paper response, and led key discussions/input across a range of provisions on the workability of the Online Safety Bill (through several drafts).
  • Developed matrix-driven regulatory approach for Ofcom on Protection of Children, identifying and setting up policy workstreams and strategic priorities ahead of regulation. Set up and led a Protection of Children department within Ofcom.
  • Worked closely with online services already regulated under UK Video Sharing Platform regulation (inc. TikTok, Twitch, OnlyFans) to understand protection measures in place and gaps in compliance.
  • As first Age Assurance policy lead, drafted/delivered VSP guidance on AA/AV; led stakeholder engagement with OnlyFans and secured improvement in their deployment of age verification technologies in the UK.
  • Conducted extensive stakeholder relations with a wide range of platforms, third-party tech providers, regulators, charities and government officials to build knowledge and insights of Online Safety challenges.
  • Produced Ofcom first OS strategy for Age Assurance - approved and endorsed by CE and Board.
  • Led innovative research projects on complex age assurance/verification policy issues, as well as parental controls, content ratings, community guidelines and a range of trust and safety issues. Engaged with a range of product and trust and safety professionals at Meta, Google, Reddit and Pornhub as part of an innovative platform pilot project.
  • Worked closely with ICO, BBFC, ARCOM, DLM, ERGA/EPRA and other regulators on age assurance; safety/data privacy issues; conceived, secured buy-in, and set up a first-of-its-kind International Working Group on Age Verification.
