Hamish Gore

With great support from school leadership to grow the music department, I have:

• Dramatically increased the numbers of students taking music at KS4.
• Increased the take-up of peripatetic lessons.
• Increased the amount of timetabled music lessons at KS3 to one hour per week from one hour per fortnight.
• Started two successful school choirs, where previously there were none.
• Increased the co-curricular offering and participation in school concerts and external performances.
• Developed a more musical and engaging music curriculum and switched from offering the BTEC Tech Award to GCSE music at KS4.

I completed my HPITT with Teach First at Trentham Academy and have been the music teacher there ever since. I gained QTS in 2023 and my PGDE in 2024.

• Working as a musician in a variety of contexts and scenarios including at ceilidhs, music festivals and weddings.
• Worked in professional theatrical and musical productions in theatres as a musician and assistant musical director.
• Played in touring bands across the U.K. and Europe.
• Composed and arranged music for a number applications including animated short films.

• Devised and led English classes for Korean children aged 3 - 11
• Developed assessments to ensure students were placed in the appropriate classes.
• Interviewed candidates for teaching roles at the academy.
• Adapted teaching methods to meet individual student needs.
• Increased cultural awareness by integrating more diverse texts into the curriculum.

• Worked in a low-secure psychiatric hospital, helping to support both informal patients and patients who had been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.
• Supported individuals during critical life challenges, fostering therapeutic relationships and facilitating engagement in beneficial activities.
• Led music therapy sessions and group activities to promote emotional expression and enhance patient well-being.
• Managed challenging behaviour by implementing de-escalation techniques and addressed incidents of violence and aggression to maintain a safe environment.
• Achieved the Care Certificate qualification in mental health support.
