I completed my NQT after completing a degree in Primary Education with QTS at Hope University in 2020. Since finishing my degree I have continued to develop my teaching skills through supply which has encouraged me to think of a range of creative and challenging styles of learning while focusing on behaviour to ensure minimum disruption to the children’s learning. Feedback from observations has noted that I adapted well to challenges and changes that can present themselves within a classroom while providing calm reassurance to students.
I am passionate about teaching and ensuring all children access the curriculum I have worked and supported children with a wide range of SEN needs including Dyslexia, ADHD and social and emotional needs and have used a wide range of methods to ensure they reach their potential and I have trained in the pupil passport system to ensure children's needs and support given is recorded and shared with parents and other staff members. I have worked closely with the SENDCO and external organisation such as OSSME and Educational psychologist to ensure my classroom environment, rewards/sanctions and lesson differentiations met the needs of each child. I enjoy the challenge of making engaging lessons to stretch and challenge the children. For example, a history lesson to write a letter home from the Titanic where children gathered facts from around the classroom deciding which class they would like to be describing what they experienced on board, some children asked if the could stay in to complete the task as they enjoyed it so much.
My other passion is engaging children with reading and I have completed a reading for pleasure course with The Reader Calderstones. My interest in children’s reading began after my own experience watching my brother struggle due to being dyslexic and my son also struggling to engage with reading, I understand the difference it can make finding that one book that starts a child’s reading journey and the impact on their overall learning. I have encouraged reading within my classes by running Book clubs such as detective book club and bedtime stories which have always had children waiting to join the groups. I have arranged for book authors to visit and have taken part in a study about the impact of one to one reading for pleasure sessions allowing children to discuss anything that comes to mind while reading, which was very insightful.
I pride myself on being punctual and having an excellent attendance record. I understand the importance of following school policies, practices, and routines. I am aware of safeguarding and ensure children are safe and happy at school. I have previously use to CPOMS system to raise concerns for a child in need.
Throughout lockdown I worked as a supply teacher within difference schools which has given me knowledge of a number of different online systems such as Frogplay, Seesaw, edshed and Microsoft Teams.
I believe that a child’s school experience should support their whole development I have organised school field trips to various locations as well as assisting with the organisation of residential trips for year 4 and 6 to CHET and St Aseph. I also started a rounders tournament that initially was just between year 3 classes but has since grown to involve most of the school.
