My main functions at Babcock are as follows:

  • Assisted in optimisation of maintenance requirements for in-service submarines.
  • Conducted investigation projects for maintenance requirement optimisation on behalf of design authority requests.
  • Extracting and analysing maintenance data to identify defect trends and opportunities for improvement.

Worked in the repair engineering office at GE Aerospace in Cardiff.

My main functions were:

  • Providing the shop floor with support in salvaging as many piece-part level components as possible, a process that is critical to ensuring engines meet their shop visit cost targets. Collectively my work has resulted in several millions of dollars in engine visit cost savings.
  • Liaising with an international network of OEMs on both short term shop related issues, and long term strategic projects.
  • Assistance in tooling design for engine component repairs.
  • Analysing scrap data and repetitive engine manual departure conditions to identify costly recurring issues at piece part level.
  • Participating in strategic decision making with GE customers and cost leaders regarding cost-saving strategies.
  • Hosting and participating in meetings with planning and operations teams for critical business decisions.
  • Compiling and reviewing repair documentation in conjunction with special process owners (SPOs) and OEMs.
  • Training and assisting new starters in their roles.
  • Interviewing job candidates.

The competitive, customer focused, and low margin nature of the aviation industry ensure adherence to the strictest of deadlines when undertaking assignments, while simultaneously placing health, safety, and integrity at the forefront of my work. Excellent communication skills between different departments is vital for my position, ensuring that all sectors of the business are kept fully informed of every ongoing situation under my influence.

My time at GE allowed me to develop significant proficiency in the use of Microsoft office and SAP software.

Aircraft Maintenance organised through Paragon Europe

Armed Forces of Malta
Malta
2014.11 - 2014.11

I thoroughly enjoyed this three week attachment working with the Maltese civilian and military air force which gave me experience in the responsibilities of aircraft maintenance. Under supervision I changed engine oil in helicopters, helped sand the wings of light aircraft in the repainting process and changed tyres on a Beechcraft King Air which is a military search and rescue plane.

I achieved excellence in my performance appraisal report.
